Two degrees in four and a half years

In total, studying and training in the Reutlingen model takes only four and a half years. Once the IHK examination has been completed after the second year of training, students transfer fully to Reutlingen University.

Structure and content

Two-year training programme to become an industrial mechanic, tool mechanic, technical product designer or mechatronics engineer.

During the two years of training, the entire skilled worker training programme takes place at the respective training company. The accompanying vocational school lessons take place at the Ferdinand-von-Steinbeis-Schule in Reutlingen.

Study

During the first twelve months at the university, students attend the regular first semester courses. No courses are scheduled at the university for the following semester, which runs parallel to the final vocational training examinations (IHK examination). It is therefore recommended that students apply for a semester of leave at Reutlingen University during this semester.

The programme then continues with the second semester. The practical semester can be spread over two semester breaks.

Among other things, the programme offers lectures and laboratory practicals with the following content:

MEchanical Engineering

  • Scientific and technical fundamentals
  • Design, manufacturing, drives
  • Foreign languages
  • Business administration
  • Soft skills

Mechatronics

  • Computer science
  • Electronics
  • Automation
  • Mechanics
