A degree programme for the major technical challenges of our time

The combination of power electronics and microelectronics is the key to renewable energy-based power supply and electromobility. The course content incorporates the latest industry requirements for the development of power electronics and microelectronic systems.

Structure and content

Whether purely electrically powered or in a hybrid variant: every electric drive motor in a car requires power electronics for control. Forward-looking innovations in medical technology and building services engineering are also only possible thanks to power and microelectronics.

The current requirements of industry in the development of power and microelectronic systems have been incorporated into the definition of the course content. In addition to power electronics, the design of analogue integrated circuits is an important focus of the programme, as the interaction of digital signal processing systems with the outside world requires the handling of analogue signal forms in many ways. For example, sensor signals are usually recorded as analogue values. Analogue variables must also be provided for the power supply and control of actuators. In connection with this knowledge, modern methods of electronic design are taught in theory and practice. Electrical drive technology is another central component of the curriculum.

Among other things, the programme offers lectures and laboratory practicals on:

  • Analogue circuits

  • Semiconductor components

  • Power electronics

  • Digital circuits

  • Design methods

Study plan

The E&D Teaching and Research Centre – Electronics & Drives

Electronics and drive technology move the world: At E&D, teaching and research focus on issues relating to new power electronic assemblies and concepts, the use of new semiconductor components, innovative circuit concepts in microelectronics, new methods for the automated design of circuits, and improvements in electric drive technology.
