With the two specialisations ‘energy technology’ and ‘energy economics’, our energy studies programme trains both your technical and economic perspectives and ways of thinking.

Structure and content

In the first semester, students learn about the technical, economic, business and legal fundamentals of decentralised energy systems and energy efficiency. The elective modules enable students to broaden and deepen their knowledge, skills and competencies on an individual basis.

Possible elective subjects include:

  • Renewable storage technologies
  • Simulation and planning tools for combined heat and power generation
  • Energy law
  • Business models in the energy industry
  • Energy trading and transnational market relations
  • International business models
  • Corporate cooperation
  • Energy efficiency

In the second semester, students choose between the specialisations ‘Energy Technology’ and ‘Energy Economics’. In both specialisations, we teach technical content using a project-based teaching format. The focus is on practical application. We emphasise interdisciplinary cooperation between the two specialisations. You will develop solutions for decentralised energy technology and markets and have the opportunity to deepen your knowledge.

Students apply the theoretical knowledge they have acquired in research and development projects. Project-based teaching has established itself as a forward-looking approach and enables future managers to learn the necessary skills in the areas of leadership, teamwork and soft skills.

In the third semester, students consolidate the knowledge they have acquired in the future-oriented fields of decentralised energy systems and energy efficiency as part of their Master's thesis and apply it in practice.
